Pro Release v2.3 - January 2010

Clickable Pro Product Release v2.3
Release Date: Saturday January 23, 2010
Release Webinar: Wednesday January 27, at 1 pm EST - Please email support@clickable.com to register.
Release Summary PDF

This is our first monthly release under our new agile development process, and we are excited to kick off the year with something new.  Release 2.3 does not introduce a whole lot of new features, but makes several of existing features better in a lot of small but important ways.

These are the release highlights:

Reporting: Better Support for Large Reports

In our last release, v2.2, we expanded our reporting capabilities significantly, extending custom reporting groups down to the keyword level.  Customers who manage millions of keywords immediately jumped at the opportunity to see their whole account in one view, and that stretched our capabilities a bit.  To ensure that reporting performs well for all our customers, both large and small, we put in measures to better handle large reporting requests. Excel reports of certain types and sizes will now be generated offline, and customers will be sent a link to download it when it is available. Because our PDF reports are generated in real-time, some restrictions have been implemented to ensure a great user experience.

More details on the reporting impact are available below.

Location (Geo) Targeting: Search and User Experience Improvements

In our v2.2 release we introduced a powerful new map-based location (geo) targeting solution.  We have now introduced improvements to the location power search, making it more responsive, inclusive and intuitive, so it is easier for you to find the location you are looking for. We also improved the experience by smoothing out unnecessary refreshes when adding new locations and adjusting the zoom levels when adding locations of different levels.

More details on the location (geo) targeting impact are available below.

Keyword Bulk Edit: Support for Long Keywords

Our Keyword Bulk Edit Tool allows you to filter and change bids for keywords across networks in a single window.  This powerful feature had a small issue that turned out to be a big headache for customers with long keywords or keyword phrases: the whole keyword was not visible in the grid at a glance, so it was difficult to scan a keyword list.  A simple fix to wrap the entity names should provide the solution and make this unique tool even more functional.

Community: New Clickable.com Home Page

Clickable has grown and evolved significantly in the last year, and it was time for a home page update that reflects our progress.  Our new home page provides much clearer organization of content, and direct paths to our Pro, Assist, University and Platform offerings. The design sets a new direction for our brand; this year, we will be rolling out this style in phased design updates to the rest of our community and our products.

Release Impact: Reporting

  • Excel Reports will be delivered via a link to download the report in the following cases
    • Excel Performance and Structure Reports for all entity levels
    • Excel Morning, Trend, Comparison, Day of Week, Ad and Keyword Reports at the keyword, ad and placement entity levels or with 10 or more accounts or 100 or more campaigns or ad groups
  • In most cases, you will receive your reports within 20 minutes of running them, with small reports typically generated within minutes.  Only very large reports (50,000 entities or more) will take more than 20 minutes to generate and mail the links.  In rare cases, they could take upwards of five hours and over twelve hours for very large reports.
  • PDF Reports are intended to be used as high-level summaries, and in some cases, users have created them with large numbers of entities, which make the graphs not appear legible. As a result, we placed some restrictions on the PDF reports to make them perform better
    • PDF reports are only enabled for account, campaign and ad group levels, and no longer for keyword, ad and placement levels.
    • The number of entities has been restricted.

Release Impact: Location (Geo) Targeting

  • Locations added from the search box appear correctly in the 'Added Locations', but there are some anomalies when adding cities from the tree, listing both the state and the metro.
    • The right location will be added, even though it may look a little unintuitive in some cases
    • When adding cities, use the power search until we rectify the issue in the tree as well
  • The user experience on the Radius Targeting option in Google is not yet ideal.
    • It is easy and intuitive to drop a pin to create a radius, it is not so obvious that you need to then click on that pin to launch a settings pop-up to customize the radius parameter.  We will be improving the user experience to make this more intuitive going forward.

What’s Next: Release 2.4, February 2010

Keeping up the pace with our monthly release schedule, we have exciting new features planned for next month.

Here is what we are working towards:  Any changes will be announced in the Release v2.4 thread

  • Bulk Upload: A spreadsheet-based tool to easily add, edit and delete campaigns, ad groups, ads, keyword and placements across networks.
  • Dashboard Top Features Module: A quick way to view and reach the most popular features in Clickable Pro
  • Report Scheduling (Internal release only):  An internal version of scheduled report delivery, that we will refine, test and release the following month

We are excited to provide you both with more frequent product releases and more ways to provide feedback and help us shape our roadmap.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Warm regards,

Re: Pro Release v2.3 - January 2010

Within the PDF Reports area - what are the plans for the following:  (Or, if these features already exist - just point me in the right direction please....)

1 - Abiity to include Top Keywords of PDF reports.  Ideally we could have a report show our selection of:  Top 10, or Top 50 - etc... and, while we are at it... it would be great if we could choose: (a) top key terms for the campaign, or (b) for each ad group.

2 - How about giving the ability to turn on or off any page - including the cover pages, table of contents, etc.

3 - And - the Key Performance Indicators -- when we select multiple items to show in a table format - how can we show totals for the items selected?

Re: Pro Release v2.3 - January 2010

Barry,

Thank you for your questions.

Unfortunately these features are not yet available in the product.

Over the next two months our reporting priority is enabling scheduled delivery of reports at regular intervals.  After we roll out that functionality, we will then look to add new reports like the top keywords and deleting all pages.

In terms of your third point about totals for the selected items, I presume you are referring to the Excel Performance Report, where you can select which metrics you would like to see on the each tab of the report.  Since the values are populated dynamically and the length of the report is variable, it was initially challenging to add a total row, but we will look into that.  Totals could also be added manually once the report is received.

Thank you for your feedback, as it helps us continually improve our reporting offering.

Regards,

Vernon Steward

Re: Pro Release v2.3 - January 2010

We use clickable pretty frequently and are happy with it. We would like to see the ability to share accounts, similar to the way Google Adwords allows users. Do you see this as a possibility? Reason being, we've hired additional staff all of whom work with our PPCs. Rather than one log-in for all of them we would like them all to have separate log-ins as well as receive the reports. Thanks!

Re: Pro Release v2.3 - January 2010

First off, thanks for your contribution to our forum, it is much appreciated!  This type of functionality is definitely something we've had on the radar for quite some time now, and it's definitely something we're working on building into our application.  Once there's a better idea of when this will be implemented, we'll be sure to let everyone know.

Thanks!
